Descripción
This course provides a deep and critical exploration of the Question of Palestine, one of the most pressing and complex issues in the international legal order. Over ten sessions, we will examine the historical and legal development of this conflict, from its origins to the most recent events, such as the 2023-2024 Gaza war. Through an interdisciplinary approach combining international law, history, and political analysis, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the key legal aspects surrounding Palestine, including the law of occupation, the status of refugees, the crimes of genocide and apartheid, and the right to resistance.
The course is designed to be accessible to both students with prior knowledge of international law and those approaching the topic for the first time. Through a combination of lectures, group discussions, presentations, and film analysis, students will develop critical and analytical skills to address complex legal issues from multiple perspectives.
What You Will Learn:
- The historical and legal foundations of the Question of Palestine, from the British Mandate to the present day.
- The international legal framework applicable to occupation, refugees, and minority rights.
- The legal implications of the creation of the State of Israel and the status of Palestinian citizens in Israel.
- The right to resistance under international law and its application in the Intifadas.
- Current judicial processes at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Criminal Court (ICC) related to the Gaza war.
This course is ideal for law students, international relations, political science, and anyone interested in understanding the intersection of international law and global conflicts. No prior knowledge of Palestine or international law is required.
